Why it is different
An Assamese Durga Puja, not a Durga Puja with Assamese guests
Bengaluru has many Pujas. This is the one run to Assam's rites, by people who brought the rites with them.
Purohits from Assam
The bidhi-bidhan is performed by Assamese purohits who travel down for the Puja. The rites are the ones people grew up with, not an approximation of them.
Bhog cooked by cooks who came with them
The daily bhog is made by cooks brought from Assam, and served to everyone who comes. No pass, no ticket.
An Assamese programme on stage
The cultural evenings are built around Assamese music and dance, with Kannada programmes alongside them. Leading bands from Assam have headlined.
Green by design
Natural colours on the idol, biodegradable plates and cutlery, and organic food — decided at the planning stage rather than added as a gesture.

Since 2024
Durgapatra Abhiyan
Launched at Durga Puja 2024 and inaugurated by a local public representative, Durgapatra Abhiyan serves meals to underprivileged children in Bengaluru during the Puja. It runs every year now. The name is deliberate: the patra is the vessel, and the point is that the same food offered to the goddess is the food that goes out.

Axomiya–Kannada Ekataa Divasa
Inaugurated on 9 October 2024, Ekataa Divasa honours individuals who have done real work to bring the Assamese and Kannada communities closer. It is held during the Puja, in front of the whole gathering, and it is the association's clearest statement that being Assamese in Bengaluru is not a matter of keeping to yourself.
