What it is

The food offered to the goddess is the food that goes out

Launched at Durga Puja 2024 and inaugurated by a local public representative, Durgapatra Abhiyan serves meals to underprivileged children in Bengaluru during the Puja. It runs every year now. The name is deliberate: the patra is the vessel, and the point is that the same food offered to the goddess is the food that goes out.

During the Puja, bhog is served to underprivileged children from nearby orphanages, alongside the community bhog that every visitor receives.

Our little guests, before Maa

The children who come to the Puja are our guests. They are brought to the main stage, before the idol, so that Devi Maa's blessings are theirs.

After the blessings

From the stage, to the table

Once they have been before Maa, our guests are taken to eat bhog: lunch, served as prasad.

Our guests. They are here to be welcomed at the Puja, not to be pitied. We do not name the children or the homes they come from.
